Sunday was packed with events at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Chichester, England.
Famous faces from Red Bull like Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, Daniel Ricciardo, Christian Horner, and Adrian Newey were all there celebrating 20 years of Red Bull Racing. Newey shared some exciting news about the new RB17 car, saying it could have taken pole position at Silverstone. Meanwhile, former F1 drivers gave advice to both Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. Lando Norris also made an appearance at the EURO 2024 final.
Newey’s Bold Claim: RB17 Could Have Taken Pole
Adrian Newey introduced the RB17 hypercar on Friday at Goodwood. He believes this car is so fast that it could have secured pole position at Silverstone. “Ultimately it’s adaptable and can grow so that the driver can grow with the car,” he said. According to their simulations, it would have been on pole last weekend. He compared its design process to iconic machines like the Spitfire or Concorde. With six constructors’ titles and seven drivers’ titles under his belt with Red Bull, one of the 50 RB17s already has his name on it.
Verstappen’s Future: Should He Consider Mercedes?
Robert Doornbos thinks Verstappen should think about joining Mercedes again. Though he’s under contract with Red Bull for now, Doornbos suggests that Mercedes’ recent performance might make them a tempting option for Verstappen before 2025. “In principle, Max still has a contract,” he told Motorsport.com. Fans might wonder if this move will ever happen since Verstappen confirmed he’ll stay with Red Bull next year.
Coulthard’s Advice for Sainz: Choose Success
David Coulthard has some advice for Carlos Sainz about his future in F1. Still undecided about where he’ll drive in 2025, Sainz has options like Alpine, Williams, and Sauber (Audi). Coulthard said on Beyond the Grid podcast that Sainz should aim for sporting success despite being unlucky due to a seven-time world champion joining Ferrari. Williams team principal James Vowles wants to secure Sainz for Williams by September.
Sainz’s decision will surely shake up the driver market!
