Imagine this: Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, both vying for the world championship, but in the same car. Sounds crazy, right? Well, someone from Hamilton’s camp thought it might be a good idea.

Christian Horner, the boss of Red Bull’s team, spilled the beans to the Daily Mail. He said he got a call earlier this year. Someone was asking about a possible spot for Hamilton, the seven-time world champ, on the Austrian team.

Fast forward to 2021, and the heat was still on between Verstappen and Hamilton. They were both gunning for the championship. Mercedes, however, couldn’t keep up with Red Bull that season. Hamilton, eyeing an eighth record-breaking championship, might have been thinking about a career move.

Verstappen gets it right: ‘F1 race saved the weekend in Las Vegas’.

The initial rumors were about Hamilton switching to Ferrari. But Horner says Red Bull was also in the mix. “We’ve had a few chats over the years about Lewis joining us. They’ve reached out a few times. Most recently, earlier this year, there was an inquiry about whether we’d be interested.”

‘Hamilton also had contact with Ferrari’.

Horner confirmed rumors about Hamilton’s camp reaching out to Ferrari. “He met John Elkann (Ferrari chairman), too. I think there were serious talks. It was around Monaco (in May). There were definitely conversations, perhaps with Vasseur, too. But certainly with Elkann,” he added.

Now, wouldn’t it be something to see Hamilton and Verstappen driving together for Red Bull? But Horner doesn’t think it’s likely. “I can’t see Max and Lewis working out together. The dynamic wouldn’t be right. We are 100 per cent happy with what we have.”

Will this be AlphaTauri’s new name? ‘Logo of F1 team leaked’.

Proud Tost with fine words for Verstappen: ‘Max can read the race’.
