Charles Leclerc and Ferrari have had a bit of a rough go this season. They’ve shown promising speed, but haven’t managed to snag any race wins. Leclerc, the Monegasque driver, has secured five pole positions in 2023. This is a clear testament to the speed he and Ferrari bring to the table.

But, alas, come race day, that speed seems to evaporate. Red Bull’s pace is just too much, and Leclerc hasn’t been able to convert any of those pole positions into victories. It’s a bit of a head-scratcher, really.

Leclerc’s got his sights set on Red Bull in 2024

Before the 2023 Formula 1 season kicked off, Ferrari had high hopes. They thought they’d be duking it out for the drivers’ and constructors’ titles. But, it didn’t take long to realize that Red Bull was in a league of its own. Their speed was just too much for anyone to keep up with.

Ferrari did manage to give Red Bull a run for their money in a few qualifying sessions. That’s how Leclerc snagged those pole positions. But when it came to actually winning races, Ferrari fell short. The only exception was Carlos Sainz‘s victory in Singapore earlier in the season. That’s the only race Red Bull didn’t win.

Leclerc spoke about the season in a press conference on Thursday. “It’s been a disappointing season,” he said. “We had high hopes after last year. We thought we’d be fighting for the championship. But after the first race, we realized how tough it would be to compete with Red Bull. They’ve made huge strides, especially in race pace. We didn’t make the same progress, so it’s been a letdown.”

Despite the disappointment, Leclerc believes Ferrari has made progress over the 2023 season. “We’ve come a long way this season, which is encouraging,” he said. “But we still have a lot of ground to cover to catch up to Red Bull. We’ll be working hard over the winter break. Hopefully, we’ll come back stronger next year with a car that can win races.”
