Marcus Lindblad Falls Short of NZ Superbike Title at Penultimate Round

Red Bull Racing junior Arvid Lindblad came up just short of another win in New Zealand, settling for second place despite starting from pole position in the latest Formula Regional Oceania Championship race.

It’s been a remarkable season for the young driver, who’s grabbed nine podium finishes in just ten races. That’s helped him build a commanding lead in the championship standings.

But this time, a perfect start from Matías Zagazeta changed everything.

Zagazeta jumped ahead of Lindblad right off the line and never looked back, even though Lindblad kept the pressure on throughout the race. The Red Bull junior even managed to set the fastest lap, showing he had the pace to win.

The battle came to an early end when Michael Shin’s puncture sent him into the gravel trap on lap 16. Officials brought out the safety car and eventually called the race, cementing Zagazeta’s victory with Lindblad second and Nikita Johnson rounding out the podium.

“It was a fantastic race, and we made a great start,” Zagazeta said afterward. “The pace was super strong compared to everyone else, apart from Arvid, who was staying quite close behind.”

He added: “It’s fantastic to have a driver like Arvid in the championship as it pushes everyone to a higher level.”

There’s more than just race wins on the line for Lindblad. He’s racing in New Zealand to earn crucial super license points – the golden ticket he needs to potentially race in Formula 1 someday.

Despite missing out on what would’ve been his sixth win of the season, Lindblad’s championship lead remains strong. With each podium finish, he’s getting closer to those valuable super license points that could shape his racing future.
