‣ Lando Norris believes he has a chance to fight for the world title with Max Verstappen in 2024
‣ Norris has been the second-highest-scoring driver on the grid since adding upgrade to Austria
‣ An update in Austria provided a huge leap forward for Norris
‣ Norris is optimistic and believes McLaren can reach the podium spots and even fight for the world title with Verstappen in the future
Lando Norris is seeing current success as a sign that he might chase after the world title with Max Verstappen in 2024. According to Norris, the addition of a new upgrade in Austria was instrumental to the team’s success. “Since we added this upgrade to Austria, I’ve been the second-highest-scoring driver on the grid. I think we’ve been the second-highest-scoring team, potentially. […] Of course, we’ve taken some massive steps forward,” Norris said.
Considering the changes, Norris is optimistic about the future of McLaren, but acknowledges the magnitude of the competition. “We’re talking about one of the best drivers in Formula 1 ever, in one of the most dominated cars. We’re talking about a guy who’s won 17. One of the most dominated years in Formula 1 history,” Norris said. Despite the challenges, Norris is excited about what’s ahead, believing in the team’s ability, “We know we still have plenty more things to come next year. I’m excited. Having that as a thought is quite a faraway thought. I don’t want to think of it just now. There’s no point thinking of it until next year. But I’ll be optimistic, and I believe we can do it as a team,” Norris concluded.
Encouraged by the success of the upgrades and the subsequent improvement, Norris is hopeful that McLaren will continue to progress for the possibility of a title fight in 2024. Although a victory would mean overcoming the dominance of Red Bull, Norris is confident in McLaren’s potential.
