Blockbuster Drive to Survive is a big deal in the Formula 1 world. This Netflix series has managed to rope in many viewers to the high-octane world of top-class motorsport. But, guess what? World champion Nico Rosberg wouldn’t have been a fan if it had hit the screens in 2016. Interesting, huh?

Five seasons of this series are out there already. It’s all about the nitty-gritty of the Formula 1 world. The concept was hatched by Liberty Media in 2017. March 2019 saw the release of the first season, and they’ve been rolling out one every year since. But, Rosberg? He wouldn’t have been on board with it in 2016.

Now, you might be wondering why. Well, Rosberg thought the Netflix series was a disaster. “No, no, no, that would be horrible,” the 2016 world champion told City A.M. He believed it would have been a distraction from his championship win. “That would have been a disaster,” the German added.

But, here’s the kicker. Rosberg did give credit where it was due. “What F1 did so well with Netflix is that it’s a reality TV show,” he said. He felt they lucked out with certain individuals like Guenther Steiner [Haas team principal] and some team bosses who were willing to be real, despite the risks. That’s coming from the former Mercedes driver himself.

So, there you have it. A little peek into the world of Formula 1 and the Netflix series that’s got everyone talking.
