Adrian Newey was rumored to join Ferrari after leaving Red Bull Racing, but he chose Aston Martin instead.
Ferrari’s team boss, Fred Vasseur, shared why Newey didn’t pick their team.
Vasseur: ‘Newey had different ideas about that’
Ferrari recently revamped their technical team with Loic Serra and Jerome d’Ambrosio, both from Mercedes. Despite the buzz, Newey won’t be joining them.
Vasseur mentioned he talked with Newey but they couldn’t agree on terms. “He probably had a different idea than what I had in mind for him,” Vasseur said cryptically to l’Equipe. “Maybe one day we will come to an understanding.”
But good news for Hamilton: Key people join from Mercedes
As Newey leaves Milton Keynes, Enrico Cardile also exits Ferrari. Serra will take over his role starting October 1st. This means Hamilton will have familiar faces around him along with Vasseur. “Loic’s strength is that he is an experienced man who has spent a lot of time at the highest level,” Vasseur noted.
D’Ambrosio joins from Toto Wolff’s team too. “It was important for me to have someone with Jerome’s knowledge. He has experienced everything in racing – as a driver, team boss and CEO of a team. He knows the business,” concluded Vasseur.
Fans might think this mix-up could shake things up in the racing world!
