Max Verstappen, post-Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, was a sight to behold. Emotions ran high. He admitted as much in a Red Bull Racing video. The end of the season, he said, felt special.

2023 was a year to remember for Verstappen and Red Bull Racing. They clinched both world titles. But it wasn’t just the victories. It was how they won. Red Bull Racing dominated 21 out of 22 Grands Prix. Verstappen himself bagged 19 wins and his third world title in Qatar.

Post-Abu Dhabi, Verstappen fell ill. “I was sick for a few days, didn’t help,” he confessed. His engineer sent him three emails during the winter break. He didn’t respond. “I saw him today, made up for it. It’s a bromance,” he joked.

Verstappen’s Emotional Moment in Abu Dhabi

Verstappen’s looking forward to some downtime. But standing on that podium, the year’s achievements hit him hard. “It was sad to climb out of the RB19,” he admitted.

2023 was a record-breaking year for Verstappen. Early in the season, he had a hunch it could be a good year. But no one, absolutely no one, saw it going this well.

“During testing in Bahrain, the car felt nice. But it’s a specific track layout. The surface is aggressive. Doing well in Bahrain doesn’t guarantee an incredible season,” Verstappen explained. “Then we had a lot of different tracks. At one point, you realize the championship is on. If nothing crazy happens reliability-wise, we can have a great year. But winning all races bar one? Never thought the car would do that,” he concluded.
