After the incident between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris at the Austrian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton chose not to comment on it at Silverstone. During the press conference, he preferred to stay out of the discussion.
Hamilton and Verstappen had many battles in 2021 while fighting for the world championship. “Nothing really, I didn’t think anything, but I was more concerned about my race and enjoying the team’s win. It’s nothing to do with me,” he said.
He also didn’t want to give Norris tips on racing against Verstappen. “Again, I don’t think I need to, they [Verstappen and Norris] have raced each other for many years.”
Hamilton looks forward to the weekend
When talking about Mercedes’ chances at the British Grand Prix, Hamilton wasn’t very hopeful. “I think on pure performance, and I don’t think we are currently in the same place as you’ve seen in the last couple of races,” he explained. He mentioned that McLaren or Max might be quicker on high-speed tracks. “We’re not that far behind, and I think we’ve definitely seen some huge strides forward,” he added.
Fans might feel a bit worried hearing this.
Despite this cautious outlook, Hamilton noted improvements: “It’s really great to see that we are slowly getting closer to the front.”
What do you think? Will Mercedes catch up soon?
